Frequently Asked Questions

  • Age is the best predictor of your ability to get pregnant.

Checking your fertility in your mid-20s to mid-30s can help you make informed decisions around when to plan to start a family, or whether you’d like to preserve your fertility. It’s also the first step of any fertility treatment.

In your 40s, checking your fertility can help you understand which paths to parenthood are available.

  • Most tests included in a fertility health check will be covered by OHIP.

However, AMH is important for understanding your fertility and is not covered by OHIP.

There may be other tests ordered for you that are also not covered by OHIP. Ask your clinician for more information.

  • AMH is the most sensitive test available to check your ovarian reserve, which refers to the quantity of eggs you have remaining. However, AMH alone is a poor predictor of natural pregnancy — people with low AMH can still get pregnant.

AMH is a very good predictor of how you will respond to fertility medications, and how successful you are likely to be with fertility treatment. It can also help guide you in decision-making about fertility preservation.
