ICSI
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is the injection of a single sperm into a single egg to induce pregnancy. Generally speaking, it is used instead of standard IVF only for couples experiencing severe male fertility issues (very low sperm count or low sperm motility). ICSI may also be beneficial when the membrane surrounding a woman’s eggs is thicker than normal, and when a couple has previously failed to achieve pregnancy through IVF.
ICSI can significantly increase chances of pregnancy for some couples, and recent research attests to its relative safety. Your doctor will discuss the details of ICSI with you before the procedure is started.
